Dave made friends at Hyatt Resort

Dave called this morning, August 10th. He did not set off his Spot last night, but did send it in this morning. It showed up at PCT mile 1750.

He got to the Hyatt Lake Resort last night one hour before they closed and got his resupply package. There he met an ex-sheriff of Ashland, Carl, and another new friend, Rodney. They had dinner together. When Dave asked where a good camp ground was, Carl offered his floor. He lived about two miles from the resort.

The guys were up until around 2:00 am talking and playing "igloos and polar bears". Needless to say, Dave got a later start this morning than he had originally planned. That didn't seem to matter because he's loving the adventures he's having.

Today he's planning on walking until around 7:00 pm and then setting up camp. He hopes to do at least 25 miles today.

Dave met up this morning with another hiker who had seen Zero and Fire Marshall. By the time Dave left this morning, the other two hikers were only 4 miles behind him. The day is overcast and the weather should stay cool. Perfect hiking weather.

One tidbit Dave gave me was that he found that hitchhiking in Oregon is illegal, but the big crack downs are in the state parks. That is a good fact for him to learn early on.

More tonight when ave's Spot shows up.
