This morning, Wednesday October 27th, Dave was dropped off at Rd 20, PCT mile 1397, by Wolfman. He hiked 20 miles from 1397.5 to 1377.5, back to the Heitmans. You can look at PCT Half Mile map California Section N page 16

He walked on Hat Creek Rim where he had a wonderful view of both Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta. Both mountains are now covered solid white with snow. The trail was crunchy frozen in the am, but then was muddy in the afternoon. Dave was thankful there was no snow. He was able to stop for lunch and he still made it to the Heitman's by 4:45. His favorite part of the day was that he was able to slack pack. Not having as much weight on his back made the day more enjoyable.
At the Heitman's Dave is staying in the tree house. Yes, the tree house! The stair up to the room is made of wild twisty branches, like manzanita branches. Dave described them as very artistic. The roof is shingled. The shingles are off setting, which gives them a charm. Dave described the tree house as very fairytale ish.
Tomorrow it is suppose to rain where Dave should be hiking. He has three choices. First choice is to slack pack again tomorrow in the rain, but get 17 additional miles in. Second choice is to wait until Saturday when it will be a tad bit warmer and less rain and get those 17 miles out of the way. The third choice is to wait until Monday when there is no rain and hike, but still have those 17 miles. "One day at a time" is the motto of the PCT.
