Today, Saturday September 25th, Dave walked into Manning Park. He still has no cell phone service, but he called me using a calling card.
He is tired, worn out, and has a head cold. He is coming home. He's asked me to pick him up at the Ontario Airport (if we can find him a good flight) and take him directly up to Big Bear for some rest and relaxation. We are not sure how he is going to get to Seattle, but he'll work on that tomorrow. Tonight he was going to eat, shower, and sleep.
What about the 412 miles left in California? That is still unknown. Dave feels he's really done what he set out to do. He has hiked the hardest, coldest, and wettest parts of the PCT. Most of the PCT Through Hikers I've met have skipped parts of the trail here and there for many different reasons. We'll get Dave rested and see what the remainder of the year will bring for him.
